About us
The inspiration of the church came to W. L. Bowie Sr. while he was preaching the gospel across the country as an evangelist in September 1973. In his vision from God above, he was told that the church he was to establish is to be called Bethlehem Temple Church of God in Christ. Elder Bowie got busy and organized Bethlehem Temple COGIC as inspired by the LORD. Elder Bowie along with his wife, Edna, and all of their children were members of the church. Elder Elijah Green, his wife Suzy, and their 2 granddaughters, along with Othello Cooper were also founding members.
This vision became a reality in February 1974, located on the corner of Cavalcade & Hoffman, Houston, Texas 77028. After a year at that location, the church services were held in the Bowie home February – May 1975 at 4803 Farmer St. Houston, Texas. In June, 1975 Bethlehem Temple moved to its present location 8622 Lockwood Dr. Houston, Texas 77016.
